Limo Service: Getaway Cars for the Happy Couple
By Paula Currall |

Leave the dresses and flowers to the ladies—what today’s newly married guy wants is a little horsepower. Because when it’s time to make the grand wedding getaway, driving once-in-a-lifetime wheels is a groom’s dream come true.

Men don’t have much that truly represents them at weddings, says Jennifer Adeli of Pure Exotics Dream Car Rentals in Tysons Corner, VA. According to her, “A car is one way to give the groom something special that reflects his personality.”

Even so, brides sometimes get involved: Adeli helped one bride surprise her lucky man at the rehearsal dinner with a Ferrari 360 Modena. “The groom had the car the entire weekend—from the rehearsal dinner and all day Saturday before the wedding,” she says. “He had a great time. After the wedding, they left in the Ferrari.”

If you want to fit your whole wedding party inside your ride, consider a stretch Hummer. Seating twenty, the massive truck is perfect for transporting bridesmaids and groomsmen to the ceremony and reception sites, says Jonce Gibson of Bayside Limousines in Bowie, MD. “People want the biggest, baddest thing out there,” he testifies. And if a stretch Hummer just won’t do, try the twenty-eight-person stretch Lincoln Navigator.

Before you cruise into the sunset, here are some tips for the road:

* If you have full auto insurance coverage, your policy will probably cover the rental, but check first to make sure. If not, you can purchase a one-day policy when you reserve the car.

* Some exotic cars, especially classic cars, are two-seaters. If you don’t have a driver, make sure one of you skips the final champagne toast. A wedding-night DUI isn’t exactly a blissful start to your marriage.

* Ensure that the rental company will retrieve the car the next day. If not, your best man would probably be game for the job!
